Abrasive toothpastes (e.g. charcoal) and polishing from your dentist can remove the particles attached to the tooth, but will not remove the deeper staining. They also may remove some enamel in the process, making staining attach more easily to the tooth in future.
In order to remove these deeper chromogens you must use a product called ‘hydrogen peroxide’, this opens up the pores and travels through the tubules, breaking down the staining compounds (chromogens) through an oxidising reaction; making them become lighter in colour.
Repeat applications are needed to remove all stains.
